Read the full storyA man who had been missing for 13 days was found alive in dense forest near Dunkeld, Scotland, after police dog Mac led officers to him. PC Andrew Inglis and the five-year-old cocker spaniel joined a search that had already run for almost two weeks, covering about 30km of steep, difficult ground. On the fifth day, Mac led them to a ravine near a fallen tree. The man was severely unwell and was evacuated with help from another officer, then received urgent medical care. The National Police Chiefs' Council said he would almost certainly have died without the pair's efforts. The pair received the NPCC Police Dog Operational or Humanitarian Action of the Year Award at Crufts.
Why we picked this: A patient search and a dog's nose. The man would almost certainly have died without them.
